Brahmatal is a lake in the depths of the Himalayas, in Uttrakhand. These steep valleys, coated with snow and covered with lovely oak trees, add to the beauty of this Brahmatal trek. It is believed that Lord Brahma meditated near that lake, and from here this name came. Furthermore, there are many ancient mystical stories about this lake related to Hindu mythology, which you can discover from the locals.

Best time to visit

The best time for Brahmatal Trek is the winter season (November–March). when the mountains are coated with snow, an alluring cold breeze drifts through meadows, and the steep and sloppy valley is covered with a beautiful forest of oak trees and dense, lavished red rhododendrons. Although most of this trek is spent in the forest, this decreases the chances of you getting vertigo.

Start your journey from the uphill city of Rishikesh, surrounded by soothing rivers.

The journey starts from Rishikesh, which you can reach by air or rail from Delhi. You can take a bus or taxi from Rishikesh railway station; the rest of the journey will be on road for about 210 km or 10 hours. This road trip will be as beautiful as you’ve imagined.

How to reach Rishikesh

You can reach Rishikesh station either by bus or train. If you’re thinking of traveling by train, then this station is connected with a few big cities, including Delhi, Lucknow, and Howrah. It is best to pre-book your ticket if you don’t want to miss your amazing adventure.

A stunning trail journey over the dazzling rivers Kali and Pindari

The Brahmatal Trek starts from Lohajung, which leads to a beautiful, calm forest that will take you to a small local village attached to it, Mandoli. This trail journey usually covers the steep and sloppy route of the rivers Kali and Pindari. Besides, in the winter season, the Kali Valley is flourished with the beautiful red rhododendron, leaving a slight texture of lovely red over the white snow. Furthermore, this path will lead you to Bekaltal, which is semi-frozen during the winter. This partially frozen lake will amaze you, and you can also camp in the evening near the bed of Lake Khopdaliya.

Feel the relaxing cold breeze while descending into the wondrous meadow.

This exciting trek from Bekaltal leads you to the dense and lovely forest of flourishing oak and lavish red rhododendron. This Telandi meadow is entirely coated with snow during the winter, amusing your senses with the cold breeze and its wonderful appearance. After descending from the peak of this meadow, you’ll see a temple near downhill with bright flags flying in the same flow of that sharp and cold air. From here, the trail will lead you to your final destination, the alluring Brahmatal Lake.

Enjoy the panoramic view from the top of Brahmatal Lake.

The path to Brahmatal Lake is as wonderful as it sounds, filled with snowy oaks and dense red rhododendron trees. Furthermore, the lake seems magnificent on a bright sunny day, and as you head forward, you’ll see the stream of melted snow. As you ascend further, you’ll be embraced by the effusive panorama view of Mt. Nanda Ghunti and Mt. Trishul.
