Overview:
Kedarkantha Trek is one of the prime, well-known, and most exquisite winter treks in the country. Over the course of 4 days, you will be climbing up the summit of Kedarkantha Peak at 12,500 feet, staying in beautiful campsites, hiking along snow-laden pine and oak forests like you are in a winter wonderland, and also challenging yourself to explore another version of yourself. It’s a perfect trek for beginners trekking for the first time in the Himalayas. A complete package indeed, with plenty of highlights.
Spellbinding Summit Views:
Kedarkantha is a unique trek as it will give you a summit climbing experience and incredible views at a relatively lower altitude of 12,500 ft. The summit climbing day is a thrilling day in itself when you wake up early in the morning and push for the summit to witness the sunrise over the mountain ranges. The walk up the summit ridge is sure to give you goosebumps. At the summit, you can get a 360-degree panoramic view of the nearby mountain ranges that is bound to leave you speechless. Beautiful peaks like Swargarohini, Black Peak, and Bandarpoonch, along with the Har Ki Dun Valley, Rupin Valley, the Kinnaur Range, and many more mountains and valleys, show up at the summit. All in all, it was a memorable and hard-earned day.
Beautiful Winter Trail:
The trails are abundantly covered with tall and gorgeous pine and oak trees, and during winter, these trails are snowbound. The entire landscape transforms into a fairytale setting with snow-covered trees and white snow trails that will take you to another world and bring out the inner child in you. It’s a real privilege to walk along these trails.
Perfect campsites:
The campsites are also a big highlight of the trek, with so many aspects to admire. Juda Ka Talab and Kedarkantha Base Camp are truly a pleasure to camp at and spend a wholesome evening in the mountains. The pristine lake, Juda Ka Talab, will be frozen in the winter, which adds to its charm. Kedarkantha Base Camp has a good view from outside your tent door, which makes it a perfect setting to contemplate, refresh your mind, and spend some quality time. It’s also a good campsite for stargazing at night.

Full Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival at Sankri
Sankri has no ATMs and no proper mobile network. The BSNL network is quite erratic and, more often than not, unavailable. There are local shops and a small market selling mostly daily goods and a collection of dabbas. However, the scenic beauty of the setting sun on the Himalayas from Sankri is a fabulous sight to savor.
Day 2: Sankri to Juda Ka Talab
The trail passes through a dense pine forest, maple trees, a few streams, and finally opens out to beautiful meadows. They will be in tents. The day's hike will be a moderate one with gradual and steep ascents leading up to Juda Ka Talab. You can find dabbas on the trail where you can take a break for tea or an omelette. There are also clearings where one can indulge in photography, take a breather, and hydrate.
Day 3: Juda Ka Talab to Kedarkantha Base
Most of today’s trail is on a ridge, under oak trees. You will pass through some meadows where you can spot some shepherds' log huts. They will be in tents. Today’s day is a shorter one, but one will be ascending continuously till Kedarkantha base camp as we have 2000 feet of altitude gain. The day will provide a good amount of rest and a chance for your body to acclimate to the conditions and altitude and stay ready for the summit day push.
Day 4: Summit day: K.K. base to K.K. summit and descent down to Hargaon
It’s the longest day of the trek, the summit day. One will be starting very early in the morning, in the wee hours before sunrise, so that we can reach the top in time to witness the sunrise. The ascent will be a combination of gradual and steep terrain until the top. Once we reach the top, we can spend some time depending on the weather conditions. During the winter, one can enjoy multiple slides while descending from the top. We descend to the Sankri campsite, where we will stay in tents for the night.
Day 5: Sankri to Dehradun
